1. Highlight your key achievements:
As soon as one project ends, we're on to the next and all the previous achievements can easily be forgotten. That’s why it’s important to highlight all your key achievements down on your CV. They may not seem as important to you in a few months as you’ll be so focused on hitting the next target but trust us; these are the things that set you apart from other candidates.
2. To be contacted for relevant new roles:
Did you know if you register with a recruitment agency with an up-to-date CV, consultants will contact you as soon as a relevant role comes up in your area that you’d be a great match for. Even if you aren’t actively searching for a new job, this is a great way to ensure you don’t miss out on any new opportunities that might catch your eye.

3. To be ready for a promotion at work:
Updating your CV is in effect writing a timeline of your progress and this can often be a great way to see exactly what more you could be doing to land that promotion. Or, it could spark your confidence to discuss why you are ready for that next step up now – the sooner you can raise your bosses awareness that you’re ready for the next challenge the sooner something can be done about it.
4. To be prepared for the worst:
Let’s face it, none of us are 100% safe in our current role. With Brexit on the horizon and the unrest after the 2017 election, who knows what’s in store for the UK job market. So without being a debbie downer, prepare yourself for the worst. Update your CV regularly so if the worst case does happen you’ll already be in a better position to sign up to recruitment agencies and apply for roles.
5. To see what’s missing from your skill set:
Ever wondered what skills you have and more importantly don’t have, in order to progress in your career? Compiling a list of your skills will make it clear what you do need to learn to pit you above your colleagues or other candidates. Think about what role you want to be in next and research what skills you need to have in order to get there.
