10 Months, 3 new divisions and a broken ankle
I can’t believe it has been 10 months since I joined Detail2! In some ways, it has gone so fast, and in others I feel like I have been here for years.
A lot has happened in this short time. An office relocation to Altrincham, 8 new team members, 3 new divisions and a lot of positive change.
I have worked in recruitment for 12 years, with the majority of my experience being in Rec2Rec. Before making the move to Detail2, I had spent a lot of time thinking about what my next career step would be. I didn’t really know what that looked like, but when I was given the opportunity to be a part of an amazing journey in the growth & development of Detail2, I felt I couldn’t turn it down! Fast-forward 10 months and I feel we have achieved so much and I am SO glad I made the move. Here is why:
It’s an exciting time to be at Detail2 – Our new Supply Chain & Logistics division is taking off and I am looking forward to help build, what I know, will be a fantastic team. If people are looking to work in a growing sector, this is it. The Director, Oliver Hitchen, has worked in this sector for a long time and I believe you can’t learn from anyone better!
The Hospitality & Catering team remains our biggest division and is going from strength to strength. We have taken on 3 new members in the last 6 months and we’re still looking for more!
The Retail & Consumer Goods sector has been going through an exciting period of change, diversifying from the historic retail roles we previously serviced. The market is changing and you have to move with the times. A lot of work has gone into building relationships with head office people, working new roles such as HR, Marketing, Digital, National Accounts etc.
We have two other sectors that are off to a great start; Digital & Analytics and Media & Technology Sales. I expect big things for both of these markets in 2019 and the consultants running them.
I work with some fantastic people. Not only are they great at what they do in whatever position they are in, they are also a lot of fun to be around. I don’t think I have ever experienced a group of peers who are all so different and get on so well. The support and respect for each other is a fantastic thing to see, but before you think we all sit around plaiting each other’s hair and singing songs, we definitely don’t! The sharp witted ones in the office will keep you on your toes and there are no prisoners when there is a monthly incentive happening. Everyone works hard and seems to have that fine balance between their career and home life!
A good culture doesn’t happen overnight, but with our strategic hiring, improving peoples work life balance and everyone having direction, we have definitely got there. If you are dreading spending time with your colleagues at events like Xmas do’s, come and join us! I promise you will have a blast. One of my first nights out with these guys, I broke my ankle after too many G&T’s. Have to give a shout out here to Mike Wood who picked me up the next day, took my daughter to school and escorted me to A&E!! - #Directorgoals
Recognition & Rewards:
I have been genuinely impressed with the time and effort that goes into people’s career development here. Team Managers spend a lot of time working on individual’s development plans so they achieve what they want to in realistic timeframes. The company pay for qualifications to help managers be better managers, but also support other qualifications in different areas of the business such as marketing. There have been 5 promotions since we moved to Altrincham in April and I am sure we will see a couple more before the year is out.
When someone has been superseding targets, won a huge client or has just done some great work, it doesn’t go unnoticed and we make sure everyone knows. We like to make a big deal over small wins because it’s important and our Directors are champions of their staff.
I thoroughly enjoy my role. I am an integral part of the future of Detail2. We are nothing without good people and that is where I come in. I love speaking to recruiters and offering them something better. It’s amazing how many businesses out there are still stuck in the dark ages when it comes to how people are expected to work and how much they are undervalued. I work closely with the team for ideas on how we can constantly improve our working environment. If anyone out there has got any ideas for our next team build day by the way, I am all ears!
